PENALTY IMPOSED
WHARF DISPUTE SEQUEL
The waterfront controller. Mr. W. J. Cuthbert, has suspended for a week and two days some of the 50 waterside workers who were dismissed on April 18, after refusing to work on the grounds that it was raining too hard. Others will be suspended for two days. This penalty was imposed after a meeting of an advisory committee to xhe "Waterfront Control Commission., comprising representatives of workers and employers. If it was found that the union had -not fully dealt with the situation, it was agreed that the matter should be referred back to the bureau consultative committee, whose decision regarding a penalt3 - would be enforced. The president of the Waterside Workers' Union, Mr. H. Barnes, said this morning that the union fully investigated the position, and came to the decision that as the men had already lost the pay of a Sunday's work " they had been sufficiently penalised.
