NEW CITY PREMISES

APOSTLESHIP OF THE SEA

After carrying on its activities in restricted quarters in the Zealandia newspaper building, St. Patricks Square, for over four years, the Apostleship of the Sea, .an international Catholic organisation for the welfare of men of the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, will establish a new institute in the two-storey brick building of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, in Swanson Street. The Chamber of Commerce is shortly to move to larger premises at the corner of Chancery Street and Courthouse Lane. The building has been bought by the Catholic Bishop of Auckland .on behalf of the seamen's organisation, for £6500. The Apostleship of the Sea has given long-standing service to seamen. Outings are arranged for visiting seamen in an attempt to make interesting the time spent in port. Suppers, teas, and social functions are held. Reading matter is provided, both at the institution and on board ship. The committee has also collected gramophones and records for use at sea. In the new building, which will require no alteration; there will be a large social room, lounges, a chapel and offices.
