HELP TO RUSSIA

SHEEPSKINS FOR SOLDIERS

"If it is not within our sphere of action, surely some- organisation should take up the question," said Sir Ernest Davis, when referring, at the annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, last night, to the need for helping Russia. The suggestion of a shipment of 50 000 sheepskins, as well as clothing, to distribute among the soldiers in Russia, was instanced by Sir Ernest as one form of help. This, he said, would be only a drop in the bucket, but it would mean much to every individual of 50,000 men. It would also be another token of New Zealand's desire to help her Allies in their magnificent stand against the brutal invader which had surprised the Hitler hosts and the world. He recalled Bernard Shaw's prophe.tic words, when Germany invaded Russia, that "Hitler has committed suicide."
