GIRL WINS NEW YORK 440 TITLE NEW YORK, May 3. Twelve-year-old Florence Schmitt won the New York " Metropolitan 440 yds freestyle swimmingchampionship, beating the defending champion Marilyn Sahner. In the baseball double-headers Dodgers beat Giants 3—2 and lost I—2;1 —2; Cardinals beat Reds 7—6 and 6—3; Pirates beat Cubs 3 —o and l—0; Braves beat Philadelphia 3—l and lost 5—6; Yankees beat Senators 11—3 and lost I—4; Browns beat Whitesox 3—2 and 4—l; Redsox beat Athletics 7 6 and lost 1—8; Indians beat Tigers 5—2 and the second game was postponed. Henry Armstrong knocked out Saverio Turiello in the fifth round at Washington Stadium.
