PORTER SENTENCED

Having been convicted of being found unlawfully in a dwelling, with intent to commit a crime, Arthur Roland Smith, a porterbarman, 22, for whom Mr. Dickson made a plea for probation; was admitted by Mr. Justice Fair to-day to three years' probation. His Honor said the offence was a grave one, the prisoner having been found in the room of a voung girl, a stranger to him, during the night, but he was satisfied that the offence was due to the young man having taken drink. Special conditions of his probation were that he should take out a prohibition order against himself, and should not take employment in a hotel or brewery during the term of his probation. He was also ordered to pay £15 costs.
