WASTEFUL RUNNING

WARNING TO TAXI-DRIVERS

WHANGAREI, Thursday.

"The object in granting licenses to ancillary operators is the conservation of petrol and tyres, said the No 1 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan, at a sitting in Whangarei, when dealing with applications by farmers and other users for licenses for vehicles used in their own work without reward. "There has been a lot of unnecessary and wasteful running over long distances by taxis and it will have to stop " added Mr. Phelan. If it does not stop and the taxis, do not cater for the people they are licensed to serve we will have to limit running to a radius of 15 miles. We will deal with this position drastically, even to revoking licenses." _ A large number of applications under the Transport Board's emergency regulations were granted.
