MAORI WOMAN FINED
TRESPASS ON COURSE SHOCK FOR HER HUSBAND Because she was discovered by the police on a racecourse at a recent "meeting, Margaret Peri was charged on summons, in the Police Court to-day, with being illegally on the course. Mr. Allan Moody represented the defendant, who pleaded guilty. Senior Detective Walsh saia defendant was a Maori woman of bad character, with a number of previous convictions which include vagrancy and assault. She was a person excluded from attending raceCo Mr S : e j. H. Luxford, S.M.: Did you say she was a married woman or a Maori woman, Mr. Walsh. "She happens to be both, replied Mr. Moody, "for she is now m arned. Mr. Walsh said he doubted whether Peri was married,. but Mr. Moody assured the Court that she was now married. , . .. "She took her husband to the races to show him the sights. No doubt he got a shock to learn of his wife's indiscretions," said c°unsel"l hope it will be the last shock he will get," said the magistrate, who imposed a fine of £2 and costs.
