PROBLEM AT HOSPITAL
(P.A.) WESTPORT, Wednesday. Because of staff shortage the Buller Hospital Board has given notice of a drastic curtailment of the hospital visiting hours. Although the hospital has " been understaffed for some time the position has rapidly deteriorated and a crisis was precipitated yesterday, when the staff, with the matron's approval, stated they would all do what some had done—walk off the job unless remedial measures-were taken. The reason giverC-TSy the staff was the alleged imgptency of the manpower authorities to prevent defections or to' take action against those who, having been directed into -'-this -essential industry, have been allowed to default.
