"BUMPER MONTH"

Coastal Command's U-Boat Work Kept Secret GERMAN PACKS GROWING British Official Wireless Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBY, May 5. Coastal Command of the R.A.F. has heen increasingly silent on its work for security reasons, hut it is revealed that last month was a bumper one in the number of attacks on U-boats. Since the beginning of the war the command has flown 80,000,000 miles, exclusive of naval convoys, made 882 attacks on U-boats, and engaged 1600 enemy aircraft. "Germany's U-boat fleet in the North Atlantic is undoubtedly increasing greatly, but the combined attacking power of the Canadian and British navies and air forces will eventually drive the enemy from the sea much sooner perhaps than many dare hope," said Admiral L. W. Murray, recently - appointed Canadian Commander -in - Chief, North Atlantic, according to an Ottawa message.
