Long Range Air Patrols From Coast To Coast NEW AGREEMENT REACHED N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. Further extension of the use of United Nations' air power is reported from the office of the Canadian High Commissioner in Australia, Mr. Justice Davis. A complete aerial umbrella over the entire North Atlantic will result from an agreement between Great r>ntain and Canada. Planes will protect British trade convoys travelling between normwest Atlantic ports and-the United Kingdom. New long-range Canadian bombers and American machines will link up with bombers operating from Britain, so that the vessels will be under constant air protection all me way across. The United States retains the strategic responsibility for the We'stp—i Atlantic.

The official announcement of the new arrangement says that the United States forces which have been figuring in the North Atlantic anti-submarine warfare have manyother duties to perform. Protection of convoys in the North Atlantic, therefore, becomes the responsibility of the British and Canadian forces. However, the American Army Air Force will continue to furnish certain planes, crews and materials to assist the British and Canadian forces, and the United States will also provide some escort vessels.
