SLEEPY FOX BEATS MONTE CRISTO AT TAKANINI
An attractive effort over seven furlongs by Sleepy Fox was the highlight of the work at Takanini this morning, Sleepy Fox decisively defeating Monte Cristo hy three lengths in 1.29 3-5. As the poles were . 10ft out on the inside grass track the effort was a good one. Foxola was too good for To Kawiti over a mile in 1.43, Sealaw and Representative taking 1.47 3-5, time upon which both could have improved. Balfron had the measure of Kentish at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 1-5, the best effort over this distance being that of Dinky Di. which ran 1.2 3-5.
Beau Vaals was doing it better than Lord Chancellor over seven furlongs in 1.33 2-5, Merry May taking 1.35. while Royal Merit and Cambria ran 1.32 2-5, the former being the more impressive.
La Fillette ran five furlongs in 1.5, Hayduk and Good Bay running 1.4 after showing fine speed early to cover the first two furlongs in 235. 'Peter Gregor clocked half a mile in 535, Master Cameron and Flying Drake completing their task in 50 4-ss. Jen' and Heroic Star were evenly matched over six furlongs, 1.16 3-5.
On the plough, Ascot Bloom worked strongly over a round, running his last seven furlongs in 1.35. Lovaals hit out well over six in 1.16 2-5, while Lapidarian, in working over two rounds, ran his last mile and. a half in 2.47. Others to work well on the plough included Tv.eeclsmuir, Saccone, Manchura and La Rosita.
