PIG MARKETING
NEW REGULATIONS
"THREAT TO PRODUCTION" (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Dominion Executive of the Farmers' Union passed a resolution declaring that the new pig marketing regulations will cause a further reduction in the production of pig meat at a time when sn increase is vitally important.
The resolution ui'ges the Government to make a special allowance above schedule prices to those who carry pigs through the winter, covering the period from August to November inclusive, and also some encouragement by special allowance to carry on porkers during autumn to as large a weight as possible, and that a special allowance should be made over the period for this purpose. It is stated that the shortage of pig meats is, perhaps, not generally realised, but it is sufficient to say that there will be some hundreds of thousands of carcases short of requirements, and, unless immediate action is taken, the shortage will be even greater next year. The suggestions are made, not in the interests of producers, but in the interests of the nation itself.
