INTEGRITY WINS

ADAMS GUP

KID WOLF NEXT

FLY ACROSS SURPRISES

Racing right up to his reputation, the South Island pacer, Integrity, made the opposition in the Adams Memorial at the Auckland Trotting Club's autumn meeting at Alexandra Park look comparatively cheap over the last furlong. He was down to less than two to one to win and his driver, V. Leeming, handled the horse very confidently in the home stretch, "in recording 3.16 1-5 for the mile and a half he took the major end of the purse away from Kid Wolf and Parshall.

Strangelv enough both Integrity and Parshall lost ground at the barrier rise through failing to strike their hopples smartly, but Integrity travelled fast early to be in a winning position with a round to go. Parshall was very ha'ndy to him just before entering the home stretch, but had to travel four sulkies out; even so that made no difference to the ultimate result. Kewpie's Queen was the pacemaker as they left the straight, followed by April Direct, Bronze Queen, Shrewdy and Parrish Lad. The lastnamed lost his position after going half a mile, and with a round to go there was verv little between Kewpie's Queen, April Direct and Integrity, this trio being a length ahead of Kid Wolf, Our Peggy, Bronze Queen, Parrish Lad, and Parshall. Integrity shaded April Direct along the back, where Kid Wolf and Parshall moved up to be a closely packed quartet with two furlongs to go. Integrity then asserted his superiority to win as Leeming pleased. Bronze Queen ran past beaten horses to take fourth place, with True Guide, Worthy Need! Double Peter, and Parrish Lad next. Our Gail Comfortably Improved by recent racing Our Gail had a comfortable victory from Stuart Lee, in the first division of the Hawick Handicap. She was racing along most of the way in fifth position, but handy to the leader and timing his run perfectly, Mitchell shot the fillv to the front to win nicely. Mihini Tere made most of the running from Stuart Lee, Bay Machine, Pinocchio, and Our Gail, and there was very little between them, but a quarter of a mile from home Our Gail raced round to join Stuart Lee and Bay Machine in front home turn. Bay Machine broke under pressure and Sir Victor ran: on solidly to .take third place of Pinocchio and Gay Spark.

At the start of the second division Jack High was hopelessly .away and Great Joy and Albert Tracey also lost a iot of ground. Übakim, on the other hand, commenced smartly and led out of the straight from Wee Machine, Brass Buttons, and Cyrox. Smith slowed the field down in the middle stages, where Albert Tracey went fast to take second place. These two appeared to have the issue to themselves in the home stretch, but Free Machine came along smartly to deprive Albert Tracey of second place, while Übakim. ran in.a very easy winner. Modern Jewel was fourth.

Lost Grounds-Then Won.

Third,"favourite for' a win,, Etta Girl won the Manurewa Handicap under difficulties. She lost about 50 yards at the start through breaking, and it, was not until the last quarter was entered upon that she became prominent. Once in the home stretch her driver, G. Webb, securing an opening, drove her through to win rather .well by a length from Tanworthy, one of the backmarkers. Forewarned was a solidly-backed win favourite, and, after going away fairly well, broke when leaving the straight, and did not settle down again until he was at least 100 yards behind the leaders. He went fast in the last quarter, but, failing to get a run through, had to travel six carts wide at the straight entrance, and his .was a fine run in the circumstances to finish fifth, within three lengths of the winner. Wharekawa made the pace for a mile from Silver Plane, Oval's Pride, Pep's Pronto and Crownthorpe. Tanworthy showed pace along the back in the final circuit, and was up with the leaders at the top, where Smith was looking for an opening with Forewarned. Wharekawa turned for home first, but was outrun by Etta "Girl and Tanworthy. Golden Journey.was a good fourth, a neck clear of Forewarned and Win Thru.

A Big Surprise

A somewhat sensational dividend was returned •in the Rangitoto Handicap because the winner, Fly Across, a half-sister to the very well-performed Parshall, led the field home. The Great Parrish mare was only twelfth in the Order of betting, and she took the lead three furlongs from the judge to stall off a couple of challenges rather comfortably and defeat Too True by a length. The favourite —and a very hot one at that—was- Volo Senwod, and he lost a lot of ground through breaking shortly after the start. His task appeared to be a hopeless one with a round to go, but when he raced up to Fly-Across at the twofurlong pole he was hailed as a winner. The effort was too much, and he tired in the home stretch. Sparkling Pointer went out very fast in the early stages to get an advantage of ten lengths from Fly Across, with Too True, Lord Axworthy, Press Gang, Courtcard and Hargocd's Pride in handy positions. Fly Across went on to the front nearing the end of the back stretch, while Volo Senwod rushed through to take second place. There was little between these two approaching the home turn, but Fly Across had too much in reserve. Hargcod s Pride was fourth, and then came Press Gang and Sparkling Pointer. The winner returned a dividend of ow £130. .Detailed results:— HOWICK HANDICAP of £400. One mile and a half. Limit 3.43. First Division: 3—2—OUR GAIL, b f. 3yrs. by Gaillard — Ursuiine (Mrs. T.
