NAZI FRANKNESS
Impossible To Have Foreseen Progress Of War GOEBBELS URGES SACRIFICE N.Z. Press Association —Copyright Rec. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, April 16. "The German people must not 'abdicate' as they did in 1918," said the German Propaganda Minister, Goebbels, in an artcle in the Nazi paper Das Reich. "The German Government is not able to foresee the future," he added. "It did not foresee all that has happened in the last two years. We can no longer turn back or even hesitate. We always favour frankness regarding the presentation of the military situation to our people. The policy of bluff practised in the 1914-18 war has lost its effect in this war, because the German people have now reached a higher standard of political maturity. However, one must concede the possibility of the Government's making a mistake. "No one could have foreseen how this war was going to progress. The direction of the war has become progressively severe. We must follow our path to the end, even if it is hard, without considering the obstacles which arise on the way. Germans must be prepared to sacrifice their lives if necessary for the sake of Nazi ideals." !
