The Northern Brigade cricket representatives arrived in Whangarei at the week-end to meet Divisional Troops in the; final of the Northland -cricket championship. Light but steady rain prevented a ball being bowled. It is hoped to- play the fixture at Kensington Park next Sunday, when H. B. Jones, star batsman of the semifinal at Kaikohe. and G. H. Hook, who represented ' the Army against Air Force, will be "available for the :visiting side. . . ' . Jones, who had played all his club cricket this season in. Wliangarei, opened the batting for Northern Brigade in its knock-out game against Fortress Troops. Although unused to the concrete" he settled down rapidly and stayed two hours and a half for 59, when he retired. F Wilks, Brigade's wicket-keeper, who has been well among the runs in army cricket this season, batted freely and attractively for 39. The medium-fast bowlers of either side—Jack who represented Northern Division earlier in the vear.' and Spurway—were most successful. When Fortress batted, Spurway claimed several cood wickets early iri'the innings. Going in halfway down the order, Sanders, a, .land Technical School player, batted exceedingly well, revealing himself as one of the best youngsters seen' out this season.
