AUCKLAND BOWLERS
FINAL THIS AFTERNOON
The 41 teams which.qualified for postsection play in the Auckland Bowling Centre's pairs championship (which drew a record entry of 160) had by last evening been narrowed down to eight.
They began the quarter-finals at 9.30 to-day, and the final was scheduled for this afternoon.
Interesting games in the second round were those in which Connew's iast ball of the 21st head gave him victory over Firth; and that in which A. L. Clarke eliminated Martin, also by one point. Curiously enough both Connew and Clarke fell in the next round to Bremner and Mingins respectively. Bremner ruts Deare Out When the fourth round was played this morning Bremner had an easy victory over Deare after he had overtaken the latter on the 12th head. Although the team was entered in Bremner's name, and he was skip in the early stages ot the tourney, J. Barber was the actual skip to-day Sending them along with Bremner was another noted skip, as de Launay was leading for Deare. Results since Thursday morning's contests: — Second Round.—A.
