TOPICAL COMMENT
YEARLING BY TE HERO The Riccarton trainer C. C. McCarthy, on a recent - visit to the North Island, bought on behalf of Mr. D. H. Blackie, Dunedin, a yearling gelding by Te Hero from Tinotere. The youngster was bred by Mr. M. H. Tims, part-owner of Tutere. McCarthy also arranged to have sent to Riccarton to be trained for Mr. Tims a three-year-old gelding by Mr. Standfast from Finelli. Finelli is a sister to Finora, which held the Australasian record for seven furlongs for several years.
TRAINER IN CAMP During R. Marsh's period of military service his team will be superintended by A. J. Paramore. At the present time only three members are in active commission— Indian Sun, Indian Sport and Den Fenella. Queen Cardine, previously held on lease by Mr. Lan Cameron, of the Wairarapa, has been returned to her Poverty Bay owner, and Royal Heir is to be spelled.
IN HIS RIGHT CLASS Yogi has not proved equal to the class he has met in either the New Zealand or the Wellington Cup, but probably he is not a real two-miler, and his form in events of lesser value has been very good. He. has won four good races this season, as "well as place money, the Marangai Handicap at the Wanganui spring meeting, the Manawatu Cup and Louisson Memorial at Awapuni at Christmas, and the Taranaki Cup. He carries weight well, and also has the faculty of freshening up nicely between meetings.
FROM STAYING FAMILY Verify, which left the Maiden class at Stratford on Saturday, is trained at Otaki by Alf Quinlivan for Messrs. H. J. Stanbridge and B. Webster. He is a three-vear-old by Vermeer from Dignified, and cost 200gs at the national sales. Dignified is by the Gainsborough horse Dignity, and Dignity is out of Queen Warbler, by Comedy King. This is a great staying familv in Australia, Queen Warbler being a half-sister to the grandam of The Trump, while her dam, Yippingdale, la a half-sister to Traquair and Chersomese, the dam of Heroic. Verify has been running on in all his races, and apparently is going to make a good handicap horse.
CHANGE OP liTJCK Hippodrome had a change of luck at Stratford. He might not have beaten a good lot, but he won very easily. When he ran second in the Wanganui Guineas early in the season it looked as if he was going to do good service for his new owners, but till Saturday he had not won a race, states the Evening Post. However, on more than one occasion he met with very bad luck in the running. Hippodrome may not be a champion, but he is a good galloper and better than his record suggests.
OWNERS* REMINDER To-morrow. —Bay of Plenty (at Tau ranga) nominations.
