DEATHS RECORDED
MRS. J. A. CAPES The death has occurred of Mrs. Jane Amelia Capes, of Rosebank Road, Avondale, at the age cf 83 years. Bom at Waiuku, Mrs. Capes spent her childhood on a farm at Morningside. She was the daughter of a once well-known Waiuku farmer, the late Mr. John Shaw. When she was about seventeen years of age, she married Mr. John Capes, a market gardener, and she had lived in the same house in Avondale for 52 years. Mrs. Capes is survived by her husband, three sons, four daughters, 28 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. MRS. L. P. NORTHCROFT (0.C.) GREYMOUTH, Sunday. At Hokitika yesterday the death occurred of Mrs. Louisa Pellow Northcroft, aged 84, mother of Mr. Justice Northcroft, of Christchurch. Born in Gippsland, Victoria, she had resided in Westland for more than 60 years and her husband, the late Mr. Leo Northcroft, conducted and edited the West Coast's first daily newspaper, the West Coast Times, at Hokitika, about 50 years ago. Mrs. Northcroft is survived by two sons, Mr. Justice Northcroft, and Mr. George Northcroft. a pioneer of Wataroa, South Westland. Two daughters live in Johannesburg.
