DEATH OF FORMER M.P.

Advice has been received of the death of Mr. William Douglas Lysnar, of Gisborne, a former member of Parliament. Mr. Lvsnar was born in Auckland in 1867 and was the son of a retired schoolmaster. He spent some years with Mr. E.
Ward, barrister, and in 1887 joined the firm of Sievwright and de Lauteur. Five years later he took up his own practice. Mr. Lysnar served with the East Coast Hussars against Te Kooti and his followers. From 1908 to 1011 Mr. Lysnar was Mayor of Gisborne and .served for some time as chairman of the Gisborne Farmers' Meat Co. He was elected a member of Parliament in 1919 and held his scat until when he was defeated by Mr. D. VV Coleman.
In recent years Mr. Lysnar became involved in some complicated litigation in which large interest.-: were considered. and on one occasion argued his own case with outstanding skill before the Cou-i of Appeal.
Severe shock was suffered by Mr. William Frederick Dray, a widower, aged 84, of 641, Sandrfngham Road. Owairaka, when he fell from a tramcar on Saturday evening. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, where his condition to-day was reported to be fair.
