PHOSPHATE SUPPLIES
STRAIGHT SUPER DISAPPEARS! Manufacture of superphosphate for distribution as "straight super" , is now being discontinued in the j North Island as a result of an in- j struction by the Minister of Agri-1 culture, Mr. Barclay. All phosphatic fertilisers must in future include one part of serpentine rock to three parts of superphosphate. Permission to dispose of existing stocks of superphosphate, basic super and super and lime mixture has been granted to manufacturers. It is understood that these stocks will be exhausted in a short time. Manufacturers report that they are holding a considerable number of orders for prompt and forward delivery of superphosphate, basic super and super and lime mixture, and they state that these will be automatically altered, unless otherwise instructed, to serpentine super. This alteration will give the following results: For each ton of superphosphate 27cwt. of serpentine super; for each ton of basic super, 23cwt of serpentine super; and for each ton of super-lime mixture, 18 cv/t of serpentine super. For topdressing, under the new rationing regulations which came into force last month, farmers are entitled to seven-tenths of last year's quota on the basis of superphosphate. For cropping- additional quantities can be obtained under a special schedule which, in some cases, shows a slight variation from that operating during the previous rationing period.
