NAZI TORTURE WAYS FIRING SQUAD AFTER 16 MONTHS While George Deckers, a Belgian officer, was with the Army of Occupation in the Rhineland after the last war, he saved the lives of two German children. lie was decorated for the act which was performed in "particularly dangerous circumstances." When the present war broke out lie tried to enrol again, but his services were refused. The Germans invaded Belgium He was evacuated to France. France collapsed He tried to embark for England, but failed. months later, on October 10, 1940, he was arrested and sentenced to death for "endangering the secui ity of the German Army " and for spying.
