ORGANISED GANG?
PILLAGING OF CARGO
SILK STOCKINGS TAKEN
(0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, Morday. It is apparent, from the condition of a case of silk hosiery opened by Millers. Limited, that the pillaging of consignments of this nature is cat ried out scienttfically bv an organised gang. There had been manv instances of cases being tampered with, said Mr. L. B. Miller, and the present one was the fifth for the week.
Levers had been used to prise the boards apart, about half way down the side of the case, which" was a stout metal-strapped affair, and could not have been opened and patched up again so thoroughly unless the pilferers had plentv of time at their disposal. Even then the operation must have required considerable ingenuity.
hen opened the case showed no signs of having been interfered with poxes of silk stockings being arrayed in a neat and orderly manner on "the top. The removal of the top layer however, disclosed that many of the boxes further down had been broken into and their contents removed. Some of the boxes had been ripped open, while others had been rifled and neatly replaced.
