PERNICIOUS LITERATURE
I agree with Bishop Cherrington that a lot of books in circulating libraries should be hurled on the rubbish heap: but as a member of the Church of the Elect (U.S.A.), I think our pastor should make the selection. The statement in books on geology, astronomy and physics (so-called) contravening Genesis, should in our opinion not be allowed to be read in the interests of true religion and should be consigned to the flames. While I am distinctly against the Nazis and Fascists, etc., 1 believe Hitler did one good act in burning a lot of pernicious works, including those of Shakespeare, Boccaccio, Shelley. Copernicus and Galileo. A great deal of church nonobservance and social unrest is due to the teachings of so-called science and higher literature; if the community returned to the teachings of the Bible, acknowledging its truths in entirety, craving for sensational and hectic excitement would cease. JAMES S. CRUTHERS.
