NIGHT LIFE
(To The Editor)
Such statements made under the above heading in the Saturday issue in reference to Auckland s night clubs are definitely a misrepresentation of fact. The inference is made that liquor is purchasable m such places This is not so. Any liquor which* finds its way into well organised clubs is in the possession of the patron before entrance. Dancing and good food are provided, these being the two greatest assets for sobrietv in such instances. Women are prohibited without escorts. The erowth of these night clubs is stated to have risen in recent months. To my knowledge the clubs I have in mind have been in existence for the past three to eight ve ars and have been patronised by some' of our most eminent and respected citizens, and offer the only avenue of Aucklanders to entertain their overseas friends in the manner to which they are accustomed The students mentioned entered these clubs with a definitely biased mind, and, as one can read, their conclusions were only assumptions Maybe they could inform the public where people would consume the liquor in their possession if turned away, other than in public parks, motor cars, in side streets or private rooms. Surely if they wish to stamp out*, the "drinking evil" they should point their finger at the establishments where the liquor comes from, not at the only medium where such liquor can be partaken of under strict supervision. EXPERIENCED.
