MUSICAL CHEQUES

AND A DRUNKEN SAILOR

While Dr. Malcolm Sargent was conducting a rehearsal at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall his wallet containing a number of cheques disappeared from the pocket of his coat, which he had left in the artists' room. Police stated at Liverpool Court that they found the cheques in the pocket of Phillip McDonald, a 10-year-old seaman, who had been found lying drunk across the pavement in a street a mile away. One cheque was from the Welsh Choral Society and another was from the 8.8.C.
