ACTION! ACTION! ACTION!
With an invasion of the Dominion by the Japanese growing in possibility, the position of our state of preparedness still calls for much to be done in the minimum of time. Now that the Singapore catastrophe has died down, New Zealand seems to have again become lethargic, clothing factories are still on civilisui work, while clothing for the forces is still so far behind. The shortage of barbed wire for entanglements (miles and miles of this most necessary material are contained in fences throughout the Dominion) could be rectified. Let the Government purchase all of this wire, using the army to take it down. Radio, lamps, telephones and a thousand and one other necessities for the Services can all be manufactured in the Dominion. Why is this vitally essential manufacturing not being done—or is it? Clothing, Red Cross goods and comforts are still being sent overseas? Why is not this material being distributed around the country to possible bombed areas and evacuation points, to be stored and ready in cases of emergency? It is the Government's job to organise such services as these in time of war. Action before it is too late! PETER.
