EDEN AND EPSOM RETAINS CARO CUP
The challenge round of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's open cham-1 pionship was played at Stanley Street on Saturday, when the Eden and Epsom club, last summer's winner of the Caro Cup, retained the trophy by defeating Parnell—seven rubbers to three. The results were (Eden and Epsom names first): — Men's singles.—R. Broun be 4 8. J. Robinson, «—4, 6 —2; H. Bowen lost to S. R. Walton. 2—6. 6—5, 4—6. Women's singles.—Miss P. Cooke beat Miss M. Hodges, 6—l, 6—l; Miss J. Hansen beat Miss R. Hodges, 6—2, 3 —6, 6- —3. Men's doubles.—B. Broun and H. Bowen beat S. J. Robinson and E. L. Bartleet, 3—6, 6—l, 6—2; A. C. Johns and A. Lemon beat 8. R. Walton and H. N. Potter, 4—6, 6—3, 6—2. Women's doubles.—Misses P. Cooke and J. Hansen beat Misses M. and R. Hodges. 6 —3, B—2; Misses J. Ramsay and L. Mumford lost to Misses M. Macfarlane and J. St. George—s—6, 5—6. Mixed doubles.—A. C. Johns and Miss J. Ramsay beat E. L. Bartleet and Miss M. Macfarlane, 6—-0. 6—2; A. Lemon and Miss L. Mumford lost to H. N. Potter and Miss J. St. George, I—6, 6 —3 r 4 ■ 6. Other contests:—First grade: University beat St. Helier's, 6 —2. Second grade: Eden and Epsom beat Heme Bay, 6—2.
