OUR NATIONAL EFFORT
The letter written by "Knowall" 1 tells only half the story. It is quite inexplicable to me to figure why strong, virile men in their earlv 40's. and even younger married men with small family responsibilities, have absolutely no job to do to help the national emergency . With the enemy almost at our gates, it is marvellous to note these men idling away their week ends in their backyards. lam an occupier of a section in a well-populated area, and am bounded on one side by three sections and on the other bv one. My two sons are in the fighting forces, and I told my neighbours that I could manage to clip the tops of the hedges if they* took their turn aim What happened? I clipped the hedges, and then they crew to a height of more than four feet beyond normal size and are still undipped. My sons are fighting for these very tired gentlemen, who only respond to the call of: "Dad. come and get i cup of tea"! SOLDIER'S MOTHER.
