It is officially announced in Berlin that the Fuehrer and supreme commander of the German armed forces has rfow taKen over the position of commander-in-chief in place of General von Brauchitsch.

The Moscow radio reports that the Russians under General Vlassbff after occupying Volokalamsk, continue to pursue the enemy westward. Russian cavalry and infantry have repulsed numerous German attacks against Kashira, northwards of Tula. A decisive factor in Russian progress has been night raids by automatic riflemen. The Russians on the central front yesterday freed 124 inhabited points.

General Walther von Brauchitsch, German Army Chief, had his early training in a Guards regiment and with the field artillery. During the Great War he was an officer on the 'General Staff. Later he became a major in the Reichswehr. When Germany scrapped the military clauses of the Peace Treaty he was given the command of the Ist Army Corps. From then on he rose rapidly till he became Commander-in-Chief of the German Army after Fritsch.
