Wanganui Team Has Ellerslie Prospects
<0.C.) WANGANUI, Saturday. Premature, Rink and Stairway have gone north to represent Mr. G. M. Currie at the Auckland meeting, but it is doubtful whether their owner will be able to make the trip. Premature's form at Woodville was disappointing, but the Posterity filly can be depended upon to show to much better advantage at Ellerslie. Her most recent gallops suggest that she will be hard to beat in the Railway. Stairway is to contest the Queen's Plate on the first day and the Derby on New Year's Day. The son of Spiral should make a good showing in the Plate. Rink is much better than his most recent performances would suggest, and he may show up well in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, but he is not likely to be greatly fancied. The Wanganui-owned Celebrity will be solidly supported in the Robinson Handicap on Boxing Day at Ellerslie. This English-bred mare won in her only start to date, at Riccarton, in brilliant-style, and she is said to have done well since, so should win a race or two in the North for Mr. J. Alexander. Lord Cavendish was physicked after racing at Otaki, where he did no good, but he was unlucky. He looks bright and well again and Is to fulfil his Martoii engagements. H. W. Scally has both Greek Author and Pillory in the Maiden at Marton. Both are very fit and whichever he relies on should run prominently. This morning Pillory ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5, finishing well, clear of Curtail, but the latter's saddle slipped and he had to be steadied. . ,! f transport arrangements can be made All Bunsby will be taken to New Plymouth for the Hack Cup on the second day. However, the prospects are against him making the trip. He is engaged in the New Year Hack at Marton and with 8.0 is not badly treated. Rita Jackson has turned Baron Bold out and now has only All Bunsby and his four-year-old full-brother in work. Ringcraft and Dynasty were companions in a spin over six furlongs this morning on the course proper. They ran the first three furlongs in 39s and the full distance in 1.181, Ringcraft doing it the better, but both were going well within themselves. Dynasty, with 7.10, must be one of the hardest to b«*at in the Marton Cup, all going well. Ringcraft is galloping as brilliantly as ever on the tracks and if he will do it right on the day what beats him in the New Year Hack at Marton will win. Red Cat was taken to Woodville, but was not raced. She is in great fettle and will not want for friends in the Marton Cup. W. H. Dwyer left for Auckland to-day with Sir Beau and Hippodrome, both of whom will take a lot of beating in their engagements as they are in great fettle. Sir Beau has dropped out of the Railway, but will contest the Christmas Handicap, the distance of > which, one mile, will suit him better than the sprint, as he does not begin with his old dash. If he negotiates the turns all right Sir Beau will keep them all busy in his starts.
