Llandaff Steps A Merry Five Furlongs
Easily the best gallop at Ellerslie this morning went to the credit of the Railway Handicap favourite, Llandaff. Ridden by Messervy, the son of Cambria Park sprinted five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. He finished well after running the first two furlongs in 24 l-ss. The poles were 45ft out on the course proper, and the gallop was done before rain set in, which was began an hour after proceedings
Another good effort under similar conditions was that of Cherry's Ticket (Gilchrist), who beat Mysito (Holland) by a couple of lengths, with Radio Call (Challender) a similar distance away at the end of seven furlongs in 1.31. The first half-mile took 49 3-ss, and Cherry's Ticket finished impressively.
The Cup candidates "Wardress (Cleaver) and Night Pilot (Stewart) traversed a round m 2.10 2-5, running the last seven ln_ 1.33 4-5, and the final half-mile in 54 They were together at the finish. Night Pilot went well, although he had a good pull in the weights.
Golden Pay (Bailey) worked freely while running six furlongs in 1.18 4-5, the first three taking 36 3-5. Over the same distance, Last Survey (Bailey) and British Mint recorded 1.19, the pair finishing on terms.
Salutation, winner of the C.J.C. Oaks finished up her work in fine style, running six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. Beau Leon (Winder) was given strong exercise over a mile and a quarter, which occupied 2.20 3-5. He increased the speed over the last half-mile, which took 53 3-ss.
Nizam (Morris) finished clear of Corot (Cleaver) at the end of four furlongs in 51s. Premature (Stewart), after running her first three furlongs in 39 3-ss, had something in reserve at the conclusion of six in 1.20. Another useful trial was that of Brahman (Stewart) and Phaleron (Green). They were together after running seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5, the first half-mile being covered in 51 3-ss. Other Gallops.—Three furlongs: Marquex, 39 3-ss; Dependable, 43L1-SS. Four furlongs: Bronze Ora (last four). 54 4-ss; Not Out, 54 2-ss; Transcript, 52 l-ss. Five furlongs: Hinepo and Orakau, 1.6 2-5; Beaucoup, 1.7 1-5; Rink, 1.8 2-5; Northland Son, 1.8 1-5. Six furlongs: Yogi and Crucible, >1.21; Tokerau, 1.24 3-5; Sir Beau, 1.27 4-5, going very easily. LATEST ARRIVALS Latest arrivals at Ellerslie are Celebrity, Gay Genet, Sir Beau, Hippodrome, Flying Spy, Classform, Old Bill and Sunny Knight. Old Bill ana Kakanui were out this j morning doing steady pace work on the tan.
