NEW TURF STAR

Hesione, Australia's latest racing star, added the Marlbyrnong Plate to her record at Flemington on Saturday. The half-sister to Ajax carried a 71b penalty and raced away to a 3J lengths' win. Before Saturday's success Hesione had made smart fields In the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick and Mona Nursery at Caulfield look commonplace. She won by four lengths on each occasion. As she beat the cream of Australia's youngsters on Saturday she has established herself as the best two-year-old of the season. Weeks before Hesione raced, her Jockey, Darby Munro, picked her as a champion.
