OBITUARY
MR. W. CASHMORE PIONEER OF TIMBER TRADE The death has occurred of Mr. William Cashmore, aged 83, a pioneer of the timber milling industry in the Auckland province. Coming to New Zealand in 1863, his family settled in Hawke's Bay, where the father. Mr. Robert Cashmore, established a timber mill. Here Mr. Cashmore and his two oider brothers gained their first experience in the bush and mill. Later the brothers went to the Cabbage Bay district on the Coromandel Peninsula, where they took felling contracts, sending their logs to Auckland.
Over 40 years ago they came to Auckland and built a mill at Cox's Creek. Fire destroyed the mill and stocks in 1919, and Mr. Cashmore went to live at Orere, near Clevedon, devoting his time to his farm properties, which, with the aid of his live sons, he converted from virgin bush to their present high state of cultivation. xMr. Cashmore, who took no part in public affairs, was well-known throughout the Auckland province for his kindly nature and his generosity in cases of need. He is survived by his widow, one daughter and five sons.
