WOUNDED AIRMAN
MADE LIGHT OF INJURIES D.F.M. AWARD ANNOUNCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that the Distinguished Flying Medal has been awarded to Sergeant Cyril Anthony P'rank Marusich, whose next-of-kin is Mr. I. Marusich, of Awakino. The citation says: "As rear gunner, Sergeant Marusich, of the R.N.Z.A.F., had participated in 40 long-distance raids, including 14 operations over Germany, prior to joining his present unit. On the night of September 5 he participated in an attack on the Derna aerodrome. During the second run over the target he was badly wounded by shell fire, and although suffering loss of blood and pain made light of his injuries, thus permitting his comrades to devote their attention to the work in hand This airman has always displayed great keenness for operations which, together with his efficiency and strong sense of duty, has set an excellent example." Sergeant Marusich was born at Pukemiro in 1921 and was educated at Mangatoi school and through the correspondence school of the Education Department.
