Well-known Runners on the Track
In the pleasant surroundings of a suburban sports club grounds units from one ,of the camps of the N.Z.E.F. held a most successful sports meeting, on Thursday. The meeting will serve as a very useful indication of the best men available to participate in the important programme of events to be held at Prince Farouk Stadium on August 5. Competition was very keen and interest was increased by the presence of several well-known New Zealand athletes, among them T : Allen, Empire Games track representative. T. Sharpley. New Zea#ind hurdles champion, and A. J. Darby, New Zealand champion hurdler of 1931. Best all-round performance of the day was undoubtedly that of Masters, who won the 100 yards in the excellent time of 10 2-ss, and in addition won the hop. step and jump, the long jump and ran second in the 220 yards. Another outstanding performance was that of Fagg, who, after winning the pole vault at 10 feet, went on to clear the bar at 10ft 6in. Results were as follows:— 100 Yards.—First heat: Smith 1.
