Winter Sailing

TAMAKI CLUB.—The Tamaki Yacht Club held a race for its Frostbite class of sailing dinghy. 1 '. A very had nor'-westerly wind gave the beats a j • flat run to the Kohi. wharf mark and a dead I : beat back to the beacon off the club-house, and | this course was sailed twice. The race started ; at 3 p.m.. the starters and their handicaps being: t White Wings (scr). Jennifer and Spray (2m). Eddy (sm). White Wings and Jennifer got away smartly at gunfire, with Spray and Eddy close up. Jennifer took the lead on the run down, rounding 20s ahead of White Wings, with Spray and Eddy later. On the be3t up to the c!"bhouse White Wings passed Jennifer and the fi.st round was timed: White Wings. 39m 40s. Jennifer 40m 38s. Spray 43m 20s. Eddy retired. On the second run to Kohl mark Jennifer gained 10s on White Wings, but the latter did well on the beat home, the elapsed times being: White Wings lh 9m ss. Jennifer lh 11m 50s. Spray In 17m 355. Handicaps did not alter the plactngs. which were: White Wings (J. Dalllmore) 1. Jennifer (S. L. Dryland) 2. Spray (D. Smith) 3. The officers of the dav were Messrs. E. Jackson. T. Tllton and W. A. Wilkinson. WABWICK CUP.—The fourth heat of the Warwick Cup. sailed, last week-end. gave the Waka;e:c ' Club an increased lead. The poin's now stand — Wakatere Club 172. Tamaki 142. Devonpor 62. and Richmond 27. The final heat will be sailed on August 30 over the Tamaki Club's course. I FAST BUN FROM WABKWOBTH.—The 2iit keel yacht Ta'.mu. owned by Mr. C. o. Frown, of i Warkworth. made a smart run to Auckland th.s morning. She left Warkworth. seven miles up the river, at 5 a.m. and rounded North Head, a distance of 38 miles, at 11 a.m. Slow time was made down the river, but after clearing Mahurangi Heads a hard nor -wester drove the small craft at a fas; pace. Mr. Brown was accompanied bv Mr Bert Duke, a well-known boatman, of Walwera. I =====
