LAST TRIBUTE

LIEUT.-COLONEL PIERCE IMPRESSIVE MILITARY FUNERAL (0.C.) HAMILTON, this day. An impressive military funeral was accorded Lieutenant-Colonel Caro J. Pierce. M.C.E.D.. formerly officer commanding the Divisional Cavalry. First Echelon, whose death occurred in Hamilton on Thursday after he had been invalided back from active service. The service, which was attended by a very large congregation, was held in the cathedral this morning. It was conducted by Chaplain-Cap-tain M. G. Sullivan, M.A., of Te Awamutu. The pallbearers were Major G. Wright and .Lieutenants

L. Orr, A. J. Coster, J. B. Whyte, J. Priscott and W. Macky. The Army was represented by Brigadier P. B. Bell, officer commanding the Northern Military District, Major E. J. McGregor, M.C., officer commanding the Waikato Mounted Rifles, Major J. Oliphant, No. 4 Area Officer, and many other brother officers. The Hon. W. Lee Martin represented the Government. The organist was Captain W. S. Dingle, N.Z.T.S., and the usher at the cathedral was Captain W. P. Aldridse N.Z.T.S. The Waikato Mounted Rifles provided a guard of honour both at the cathedral and at the graveside, and a firing party and a bugler who played the Last Post and Reveille were from the same regiment.
