TROTTING
Bronze Eagle and Nelson Eddy are well forward in their preparation for the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Clubs August meeting. Both pacers have raced solidlv this season, Bronze Eagle being ten times in the money, while Nelson Eddy gained three firsts, four seconds and two thirds. Bronze Eagle began racing last season as a three-year-old, and created a etir by winning a two-mile race at Asliburton and paying a large dividend. Soon after that he won at Wellington. This season he has displayed outstanding ability under all kinds of conditions. Bronze Eagle has the physique and breeding to qualify for top class. Bronze Eagle and Haughty arc on the limit of the Queen Mary Handicap on the first day of the Addingtbn carnival, and it should be a duel between them. Haughty has won seven out of eight starts during the past ten months, and her two victories over a distance at Hawera at Easter were impressive.
Nelson Eddy is a tough horse, and in his recent trials he has demonstrated that he is a good horse capable of adding to his list of achievements. His winning performances this season suggest he is seen to best advantage in a fast-run race. In the Dunedin Cup Nelson Eddy from 12 yards in a 4.29 class, and won easily by two lengths and a half" in 4.20 2-5, which is a record for the race. He paced the last mile in 2.8 2-5 and the concluding four furlongs in 1,1 2-5. GOLD BAR INJURED A. Holmes, trainer of Gold Bar ami Jock McGrath, has experienced a run of bad luck during the past six weeks. Gold Bar and Jock McGrath have been under veterinary treatment, while a foal by Gold Bar and another by Gamble died. About, six weeks ago Gold Bar -was in a bad way with a poisoned leg, but has made a good recovery and is now being prepared for the August meeting at Addington. Jock McGrath injured his pelvis during a race at the Canterbury Park Trotting Cltib/s winter meeting. His trainer says he yiil recover, but he may not race again lor some time. 2INCALI AND PETER SMITH If the New Zealand Cup limit is defined as 4.26, l<. A. Maidens is likely to have two representatives. Though Zincali (4.25) ie spelling he trUl be given a chance to qualify, and *he stable's second string is Peter Smith, now on 4.27. Peter Smith has proved himself 3 solid racehorse, and with the good work he has been doing at Greymoufch he should strip at his best for nest month's engagement. AN IMPROVER Distributor is one of C. S. Donald's improving pacers, and hie work at Oamaru should have him in first-claas order for the meeting at Addington this month. On the opening day he is engaged in the Advance Handicap, in which he will meet horses on the up grade in Drumoak, Nationalist, Blue Diamond. Hardy Oak and Turco. He will start off the limit, and his stablemate Nightbeam will be on 12 yards behind. STAMINA HIS FORTE Donald Dhu failed to win a race this eeason, although he wae twice second in him 12 etarte. The Man o' War gelding JUM poembty reached the top of Wβ form, and ie not likely to improive on. hie previoua best. He *? a pood etayer, not over gifted with brilliance.
