LONDON", April 20.

Fifty-eight night raiders have been destroyed over Britain so far this month, nine more than for the whole of March, which was a record month.

Eight enemy bombers are known to have been destroyed in raids over Britain night, six by R.A.F. fighters and two by anti-aircraft guns.

Enemy air activity over Britain was considerably increased yesterday, the R.A.F. replying with offensive sweeps over the Channel and northern France. Night raiders were reported from the north, west, east and south of England and also North Midlands. Merseysidc and Liverpool received particular attention.

A stick of bombs crashed in one London district, causing several casualties. A home for the aged were among the buildings hit during a five-hour raid on the London area. Five people were killed in a north-east coast town, where there was considerable damage to property. A number of those killed and injured in the Liverpool raid last night were mostly in poor districts. Eight were killed when two houses were demolished. The A.F.S. prevented a fire from reaching serious dimensions.

Raiders bombed a. south coast town and wrecked many houses, including a doctor's, who was out on duty. His wife, child and maid were buried under the debris, but were later rescued.

Persons buried under debris in a west Scotland town owe their rescue to the squawks of a parrot, which attracted rescuers.

Two German airmen were found dead in a 6crap metal yard in a south England town after their Heinkel crashed. Two others surrendered to civilians.

"I'll get the out,"' said SamueJ Timbrel!, as he struggled with a timebomb at the bottom of a deep crater in Birmingham, and refused to listen t>i words of wisdom from a constable, whj eventually forcibly rescued him. Tinv brell was fined 10/ for being drunk and disorderly.
