AT MOUNT MAUNGANUI. FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS. (By Telegraph.—Uarliunientary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Speaking in the debate on the Public Work# Statement in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon, Mr. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga) disclosed that Mr. E. C. Banks had offered the Government a free site of 15 acres at Mount Maunganui for a hospital for returned soldiers who needed hospital treatment.
Mr. Doidge referred to special mention made in the Public Works Statement of the new sanatorium and bathhouse at Rotorua. This work, according to the statement, was being expedited in order to meet possible requirements of sick and wounded soldiers. He had placed a proposal before the Government, and he knew it was receiving very sympathetic consideration. Mount Maunganui was a glorious spot, and a resident, Mr. Banks, had offered the Government 15 acres free, without nny strings attached*to the offer, as a site for a hospital to be. used by returned soldiers needing hospital attention.
Mr. Doidge said he hoped the project would meet with the Government's approval and that the Government would jfo ahead with it. The site was a beautiful one right on the open beach and ideal for the purpose for which it wa« offered.
