BIG EXPLOSIONS.

PAPAKURA BURGLARY.

COUNCIL SAFES FORCED.

BOOR THROUGH CEILING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PAPAKURA, this day. Two safes in the Papakura Borough Council offices were blown open between 2 and 3 o'clock this morning. The burglars apparently entered the building by a back window. The safes were in separate rooms, and it was evident that the one in the main offioe must have been blown with a terrific charge, as the door was blown Bft high, tearing a 3ft hole in the ceiling. The other safe wag in the town clerk's office, the force of the charge used in opening it blowing a pane of glass out of the window. Both rooms were in the utmost confusion.

As far as can be ascertained, about £15 in cash was taken, and investigations are being carried on this morning by Detectives A. Moore and J. Hunt. It is thought that the intruders may have been attracted bv the sum of £700 which had been collected for patriotic purposes in the district and lodged with the town clerk. The money, however, had been banked before the offices closed at about 4 o'clock on Friday. Nearby residents heard what appeared to be muffled explosions, one at 2 a.m. and the other at 3 o'clock this morning.
