Hats To Suit Your Hair

Women's World

A HAT nowadays is much more than a hat. It's an adornment which not only sets off the whole of your ensemble, but adds to the attractiveness of your hairdressing and your face. It should balance your face, enhance its most beautiful features and conceal those which are not so attractive.

: Therefore, although the hat you choose . may be classic or cockeyed, as you j desire, if it is to set off your hair- ! dressing it must suit your hairdressing. : A tiny hat, for instance, looks ridiculous . perched on top of a long bob, which [ frames the face and falls down upon the shoulders. With this type of hairdo, whether your hat has a brim or not, it ' should cover a good deal of your head, i otherwise your face will lack balance. You can wear an off-the-face hat with a wide brim which can either be swept upwards in front or downwards to shelter the face. With a short bob which shows half the ears, your hat must be small. You can select one which tilts forward or which is worn off the face. That will depend upon the manner in which your hair falls on the cheeks. If the short ends of the hair are falling forward, those giving softness to the cheeks, you can then wear the hat well back from the face. The Edwardian style, which is still worn, although it is not as fashionable as it was some months back, is best suited by a small hat tipped forwards m front. Remember that the hat must never cover the back of your he id. With this type of hairdressing you can wear all styles of ridiculous hats, and providing they sit well forward your face will gain piquancy. If you wear your hair up in front and down at the back, or up in the front and semi-shingled at the back, as is at present the fashion, you will then appear best in a hat with a brim. It can be wide or narrow, turned up or down. The crown of the hat should be small. And here are a few general hints. If the top of the head is too flat, either have your hair piled high with curls, or else wear a hat which has a slight fullness.

Brims which turn down all the way around a hat give the features a droop, and should only be worn by young people. Small brims and those which turn up all round are slenderising and heightening and make one feel cheerful, too. Straight lines should be avoided. The most softening hats are those which are irregular, and if worn slightly tilted to one side, they give an air of piquancy. If the features are irregular, it will be found that a hat with a large brim is most kind.
