MAN STRUCK BY TAXI.
WOMAN IN HOSPITAL.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CARTERTON, this day. A single man, Mr. Norman Franklyn Hawtin, aged 40, of Martinborough, was killed instantly when he was struck by a taxi driven by Mr. James Fyfc Brassel, of Martinborough. Mr. Hawtin was walking along the roadway at the boundary of the borough in company with Mrs. Stanton at the time of the accident. The driver of the taxi swerved, but the left front of the vehicle struck Mr. Hawtin and carried him along the road for some distance. He suffered severe injuries to the head and both his legs were fractured. Mrs. Stanton was also injured, suffering a fractured hip. She was admitted to hospital. An inquest was opened yesterday and adjourned. Deceased's parents live at Makotuku, Hawke's Bay.
