THE WESTFIELD MARKET. * STEADY DEMAND FOR STEERS. A larger yarding of cows and heifers came forward at the West field fat stock market to-day. The quality was varied and, owing to the big supply, quotations were lower than realised at last week's sale. I Although the quality was not up to that I of recent yardings, an average number of j steers sold steadily at late prices. Extra ! choice ox beef brought up to 37/ per 1001b. The calf yarding was larger than those of recent sales, while the quality generally was not so good. Values were inclined to ease, especially for plain and unfinished sorts. AUCTIONEERS' REPORTS. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. Beef.—A larger yarding of beef came forward, comprising mostly cow and heifer beef. Steers sold to a steady demand at late quotations. The over-supply of cowe and 'heifers saw these easier in values. Extra choice ox sold to 37/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 33/ to 36/; ordinary and plain, 28/ to 32/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 28/ to 33/; ordinary cow beef, 22/ to 27/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £13 10/ to £14; heavy prime steers, £12 7/6 to £13 7/6; lighter prime steers, £11 to £12 5/; light prime steers, £9 7/6 tt> £10 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £6 to £9 5/. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £9 to £9 17/6; heavy prime cows and heifers, £7 17/6 to £8 17/6; lighter prime cows and heifers, £6 12/6 to £7 15/; light prime cows and heifers, £5 10/ to £6 10/; other ktliable cows. £3 10/ to £5 5/. Calves.—Larger numbers were penned. There was no alteration in values, quotations being on a par with last week. Dalgety and Company, Ltd. Beef.—Our offering of beef totalled 99 head, comprising 21 steers and 78 cows aad heifers, against 151 head last week. The quality of the ox beef was first-class and the offering sold under steady competition at late ruling rases. An average entry of cow and heifer beef met a weaker demand, values being easier by 2/ per lOOHj. Ox beef was penned in large numbers. The quality was not np to the usual standard. Bidding was steady and late values were maintained.
