The death has occurred of Mr. J. W. Kidd, a supervisor of the land development branch of the Lands and SurveyDepartment at Rot.orua. Early in the century Mr. Kidd was attached to a survey party, under Mr. J. B. Thompson, a former Under-Secretary of Lands, in preliminary work in connection with the drainage of the Hauraki Plains. Later he was the Department's overseer in that district for over 25 years, until his promotion to Rotorua nearly two years ago. The late Mr. Kidd's knowledge of the problems of land drainage in the Hauraki Plains proved invaluable to the Department. Although in failing health for some time. Mr. Kidd showed remarkable fortitude in carrying out his duties with energy and enthusiasm until a short time before his 1 death at the age of 04 years. Mr. Kidd is survived l»v a widow and a growu-up family.
