APPLES AND TOMATOES. BLACKBERRIES. IN KEEN DEMAND. HEAVY VEGETABLE SUPPLIES. Fairly large quantities of Gravenstein and Albany Beauty apples came forward! at the Auckland City Markets to-day and sold freely at "the quoted prices. The demand was also good for Bon Chretien peai«. Choice lines of tomatoes sold iauJy well, but cracked and inferior lines were not wanted. The demand was 6low for hotfhouse grapes, although values showed an improvement on last week. A fair demand was reported for good quality peachen, 'but poor for plums. Otago apricots ami nectarines sold at fair rates. There was a keen inquiry for blackberries. Heavy supplies of cabbage and cauliflower were on tfie market to-day, realising fair prices for this season of the year. Onions were in very heavy supply, with a ten-j dency to lower prices. Quanti'tri«s of potatoes were much heavier, with values slightly lower. New season's kuinarafi were also in much heavier supply, but still brought good prices. Supplies of pumpkins were very , the demand being confined to choice lines, others selling at very low rates. Parsnips were in dhort su-PPly, realising good prices. ■Supplies of I carrots were very heavy, with values exceptionally low. Ohoice celery was in good supply, with values high. Green peas and beans were also plentiful, wibh fair prices ruling. Supplies of lettuce were not so heavy and prices advanced. At to-day s auctions the supply of poultry was medium anil the demand was fair. The prices paid were practically unaltered. Selling rates were as follow: - Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 5/ to 7/ each, not prime 2/ Co 3/; light breeds, prime 2/ to 3/3, not prime 1/ up. Fat Hens: Heavv breeds, 2/9 to 3/6; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 5/ to 7/. smaller 2/ up. Drakes: Young, prime 2/ to 3/, smaller 1/6 up. Quotations: —Apples: Albany Beauty, 4/ to 6/ case; Gravenstein, 4/ to 6/; cookers, 4/ to 5/; Willie Sharp, 4/ to 5/6. Pears: Bon Chretien, 9/ to 11/6 case. Peaches: Paragon, 4/ to 6/ crate, 10/ to 13/6 excellent choice crates; Golden Queen, 4/6; others, 5/6 to 9/. _ Plums: Satsuma, 3/ to 4/6 case; Doris, 3/ to 5/; Greengage, 7/3. Nectarines: Choice, local. 3/ to 6/ case; Otago, 8/ to 11/; local, stray crates, 8/ to 13/6. Apricots: Otago, 8/ to 12/ case. Strawberries. Captain Cook, excellent choice, 1/9 chip. Blackberries: 8d to lid lb per chip; 6d to 8d lb loose. Passion Fruit: 12/9 case. Vegetables. There was a rise yesterday in the price of eggs as follows:—First and B hen and duck eggs, Id per dozen rise. C grade hen -and duck -eggs remain the same. Farmers' Butter.—lid to 1/2 per lb. Flowers.—There was a very poor demand for all lines of cut flowers to-day with the exception of a few special gladioli and asters. Prices generally were low.
