ONE FAVOURITE.
WINS AT TE RAPA. FOOTLOOSE'S SPRINT. GAYMISS COMPLETES DOUBLE. Although favourites ran prominently in six of the eight races at Te Rapa yesterday, when the Waikato Racing Club brought its summer meeting to a successful conclusion, only one of them succeeded in winning. This was the two-year-old Raceful — Diamond Maid filly Gaymiss, who repeated her first day's performance by spreadeagling the field of juveniles in the Eureka Handicap. The Vercoe Handicap, principal event on the programme, was won by Dr. M. G. Pezaro's aged gelding Royal Appellant after a keen struggle over the last half furlong with Racecamp, while the Flying Handicap was taken by Footloose in impressive style. In this race, Orelio, who failed on Saturday, came home strongly from a long way back to secure second place. Speculation was spirited throughout the afternoon, a total of £37,105 being invested on the totalisator, this being a decrease of £832 10/ compared with the figures for the second day last year. Altogether the sum of £86,772 was wagered at the meeting, against £88,312 10/ twelve months ago—a decrease of £1540 10/. Details of late results are as follows: —
