VETERANS AT CREASE.
WEULINGTONXANS MUSTERED. TRIAL FOR AUCKLAND GAME. To celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the pioneer Auckland-Wellington cricket match, played on March 16, 1860, a game between teams of veterans is mooted for the Basin Reserve next month. Mr. H. Duncan, who recently returned from a holiday In the south, will report on the matter at to-night's meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association. The southerners have gone so far nhead with the proposal that a trial is beins staged at thfr Basin Reserve next Saturday. Those invited to ploy are: —T. C. Lowry and D. C, Collins (former New Zealand captains), F. W. Oilligan (captain of Oxford University in 1020), R. de R. Worker, W. S. Brlce, H. M. McGirr, W. A. Baker, J. A. Bruce, A. E. Donoghue, W. A. Aldereley and M. Henderson. One of tlm noted "old-timers" not available is E. O. Blamires, who ?ifter representing Wellington and New Zealand, led Ota go to victory 'or the first time in the Plupket Shield tourney of 1924-38, In which season Mr. Duncan hjmeelf was a member of the dart-blue XI. In order to lend additional colour to this week's attraction at Wellington, that association Invited two Aucklanders to assist, but neither N. C. SDedden (another Dominion skipper), nor S. G. Smith is available, though no doubt they will play if and when the interprovincial match is staged.
