LANDED AT LISBON.
TORPEDOED SHIP SURVIVORS. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 17. It is reported from Lisbon that the Dutch liner Poelau Bras (927 tons) landed 58 of the crew and two passengers from the Dutch motor freighter Arendskerk (7906 tons), which was torpedoed by a German submarine in the Bay of Biscay. The survivors were transhipped from the Italian steamer Fedora, which had rescued them from their sinking ship. The crew of a lifeboat on the southwest coast were attending a funeral when an explosion at sea necessitated their launching the boat and speeding to the aid of an unknown 10,000-ton tanker, which was on fire from end to end, says a London cable. Other craft followed the lifeboat, including a patrol boat, which landed survivors after the tanker had sunk.
