Remarkable fortitude was shown by Douglas Bright, aged 22, one of the State's leading life-savers, when he was attacked by a shark at Southport. Fighting off the sliark alone, he called to three companions to keep together, and then swam nearly 200 yards unaided to the shore, leaving a trail of blood. He was admitted to hospital iu a serious condition, with two large gashes on the chest and stomach.
